Exclamation headlight switch NOT working on AUTO mode

hey guys I know when I put the headlight switch on auto mode, the goes on while its dark outside and off while its not. However, in my situation when I put the switch on auto everything goes off and never turn on. Even when it is dark outside, the headlight will not turn on "AUTOMATICALLY"

What do you think the problem is from? How it could be fixed?

Thanks in advance,
Bassil

Did it ever work? I would say the light sensor that detects the light level is broken. Should not be the switch on the toggle, that part is purely mechanical and I have never heard of those things breaking.

O.K. I was looking at the Owner Manual. under the Automatic headlight leveling system, it says "if this system fails, the multi-information display shows a message HEADLIGHT LEVELING. If this occurs, have your vehicle checked by Lexus dealer."

So, I don't think its from the light sensor.

or what do you think.?

The light sensor I was refering to is the photostatic sensor that detects light level outside, not the auto-leveling sensor for the headlights. That is something totally different. The auto-leveling is what makes the HID lights go up and down when you first start the car up and adjusts the height of the aim so you don't blind oncoming traffic.

The light sensor I mention is not monitored by the onboard computer. It's located I believe on the dash, front edge by the windshield and near the middle of the dash. I really couldn't tell you how to test this...
