This is the last time I ever take my 2005 Lexus LS430 to this place.
I needed an oil change so I called for an appointment. No problem -- you don't need one. Bring it over. I did. 2 hours and 10 minutes later I had my car back! Over 2 hours for an oil change! On top of that the service guy said I need new brakes. I ask how much. $800.00 he says. What a complete rip off. He also says I need 3 new tires (my car has 25,230 miles on it). So I take it to a well known brake shop where they also sell tires. No need yet, yes, there is wear but nothing to get excited about.
I also found out recently that all service people who work for Lexus (those that write up your work request) are paid 10% of the final bill! Yep, 10%. So when they say that you need thus and thus, just be aware.
For this reason I am going to get my work done elsewhere. If they can"t get the idiot light off, so be it. I am not going to ripped off by Lexus. But if any of you out there have had work done elsewhere, where they know how to turn those idiot lights off, I'd be happy to know.
Sorry to hear about your lousy experience. I haven't had the need to take my LS to the shop yet..i've done everything in my parents driveway (oil & tire rotation & filters so far).
If you're somewhat mechanically inclined, the brakes on the LS may be one of the EASIEST to do on a vehicle!!! There are many many threads, posts, pictures, etc that will guide you through the process. Just buy the parts (online, ebay, Toyota dealer, etc) and you may surprise yourself. I know not all people may WANT to turn a wrench or may not even be physically ABLE to get into certain positions (under the car, crouching, etc), but don't count yourself out of doing some routine maintenance.
This site is an incredible knowledge base. USE THE SEARCH THREAD or POST tools near the top of the page for certain keywords, etc. You will be amazed.
Regarding the idiot light, it is activated by mileage. There is a thread which tells in detail how to reset it. I would be willing to bet most local "firestones" or "goodyear" auto repair places will NOT know how to reset it..but there are obviously great shops that "specialize" in Lexus' etc.
Very sorry to hear of your poor experience...I have been underwhelmed with Lexus . There a couple of good independent shops in the desert...PM me if you want a couple of names / numbers. The business model of service advisors getting a piece of the total bill is not new and is prevelant in all levels of automotive service.
Regarding the idiot light. I have an 04 LS430 UL. I have Nav and the sequence to reset after engine oil change is as follows:
1. Push the "ODO/TRIP" button to change the display to blank.
2. Turn the ignition switch off.
3. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" with the trip meter "RESET" button held down.
4. Keep pushing the "RESET" button for longer than 5 seconds after the ignition is turned on.
After the above operation, the master warning light comes on, a warning tone sounds and the above message MILEAGE RESET appears to inform you that the engine oil maintenance data has been reset.
This is from my manual pg 94. Your 05 may be different.
If you have Nav, you can reset yourself. Choose OPTION, select INFORMATION, select MAINTENANCE, and finally select ENGINE OIL. Delete entries and input your date and mileage for idiot light.

Great! Thanks. I'll check my manual and see what it says. How about other idiot lights -- like the one when I had a tire changed?

I'm new to this board so I posted a reply, but I don't see it. I would like to know other shops that will service my Lexus. Call me 760 610-2380 or email me: Finnflyer@gmail.com.

If your car has tire pressure management with the run flat tires and it wasn't replaced properly, that could definitely trip the light. I don't have an LS, but I have heard this complaint before about those after changing a tire/tires. Definitely worth looking at. Oh, and if you have run flat tires, they're only guaranteed for 20K at the most. This could (using that term loosely) be why the service adviser recommended it. He may not have looked at the vehicle but the mileage and made the assumption your wear and tear was "atypical" for those types of tires. The mileage alone is enough to make me NEVER buy those.

Yes, there is a reset button (upper one of two) under the dash in front of your right knee. You need to reset this low tire pressure whenever you rotate, balance and air up the tires. At least this applies to the 04. It utilizes the computer to check the rotational speed of each tire to determine when one is underflated. It takes the system nearly an hour of driving after resetting to recalibrate itself. This should be done any time you air up the tires or change them.
