front exhaust pipe leak ls430
Hi, my 2001 ls430 with 96k has a leak in the front exhaust pipe, about 6 inches behind the rear o2 sensor on the passenger side. The best price that I have found for this pipe is about $1000. I can have it repaired at a custom exhaust shop but would rather replace it at a reasonable price. Does anyone know of an aftermarket supplier of this pipe I have looked all over the internet and have only found dealer prices of about $1000. Additionally this exhaust leak was caused by a slight vibration from the heat shield due to the shields clamp rotting off. The leak caused the engine light to go on with a code p0430, which went off when I put a temporary patch over the leak. If you know of a supplier of this pipe at a reasonable price let me know. Plus check your heat shield clamps, they can end up costing you a lot of money.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but my 02' LS 430 UL had an exhaust leak and then the engine light came on. Small leak on the passengers side right behind the heat sheild just like the OP. Took to Monro for an estimate. The quoted me $200 to drop the pipe, weld the hole and replace.
When they dropped the pipes they saw the that crack was almost fully around the pipe. The cut out the old section of pipe and replaced with a 4" section of pipe. Welded it in place and replaced with new gaskets. Took them about 3 hours total. Total out the door price $209
Car is so quite it's hard to believe.
Lexus wanted $1100 to replace the pipe section.

Lexus does their best to make the service experience align with the luxury of the car - both in the quality of the experience and the price. It makes sense to decide when the car is a Lexus that needs pampering and when it's just a car that needs fixing. It's different for each owner. In your case, I agree that an 8-9 year old LS that needs an exhaust pipe repair is a car that needs fixing, rather than pampering.

Perfect excuse to go aftermarket... 'The system wore out,so I HAD TO replace it with dual stainless honey...'
But if that doesn't interest you,or you don't want to spend the cash,a repair is the way to go.

Had the same issue. Went to a muffler shop. He cut out and replaced about 20 inches of the pipe and charged me $65.00 out the door. I recommend southwestern muffler off Hwy 6 North for those who live in west side of Houston.

Thanks for posting this fix 98Cruiser. I just had the same exhaust pipe repair done on my 2002 LS430. $125 for complete job. Check Engine light went off after the fix was completed. Saved me a ton. Thanks again.

the gaskets that come with it suck so make sure you get OEM gaskets

Sorry to bump this thread again but my 02 LS 430 needed the same exhaust repair. I went to American Muffler in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. They charged $250 to replace the pipes, from behind the O2 sensors to the front of the catalytic converter, including the y-pipe. They did a great job at what I think is a reasonable price. However, they did not put back on the heat shields. Will this result in any codes? Will the exhaust gases cool too much before going through the catalytic converter? Will this affect the gas mileage? Maybe I will post pics if anyone is interested.
