Like JDMUSCLE said, it is aftermarket gold plating most likely done by the dealer to rip people off, they get it done for $40 and sell them for $699.

They crapped out and ruined really fast because they are crap quality

You guys are hurting me JK. I have the factory Gold on my ultra and it still looking good after 4 years now. It wasn't a brushed on version but a full replacement. Previous owner was a real estate lady and she wanted every single option available on the car possible. I have the original bill of sales list and boy did the dealer charge her a lot. It was over $80K before t/l. I even have the clear 3M bra , and paint sealant (unnecessary).

I used to do wheels and emblems for dealers. The difference in longevity in gold emblems is whether they are dip plated or brush plated. Dipped emblems are clear coated after plating and should basically last the life of the car. Brush plating is done on the car and is lucky to look good for 3 years. I only installed dipped emblems. I have emblems on my Acura that are nearly 10 years old and look great. Steve

Sorry to hurt your feeling

Like Carmelstev have said, you probably got the good quality dipped plating, that is why it lasted. Most dealer just use the crap brush plating since it only has to look good long enough for the car to leave the lot.

And I respectfully disagreed that you got factory gold emblems, it was not an option from Lexus. All gold emblems on all Lexus are done by aftermarket companies.

No worries. This was a line item in my service history of the car. It says something like "at mile 14: Gold Emblem Exchange.

I knew the guy that had worked at the parts counter and asked back then and they do sell the gold emblems for those who wanted to do the swap themselves, as I wanted the chrome ones. Now, I don't know where they got them from, an aftermarket company or ??

I originally hated the look but it did match with the pinstripe that was on the car (since pulled), but the gold grew on me so I'll stick with them until my taste changes.

The dealer take the stock chrome emblems and have aftermarket companies gold plate them and sell them for profit.

I am with you on the taste change, I used to hate chrome wheels, now I don't dislike them. I used to hate gold emblems also, but they are starting to glow on me. It has a lot to do with the car also, with the luxury nature of the LS, all these bling stuff fit the image

gold was poplar in the 90's... IMO... my dad's 94 Black ES300 w/ gold package looked "right" back in the day...
