I have a 2001 LS430. I recently replaced the MAF sensor, but then had emissions test the next day and it still failed.
Anyone know the nubmer of drive cycles it should take for the system to recognize that the MAF sensor has been replaced/reset??
I've been receiving the emissions errors indicating that the system is "to lean". Everything I have found online indicates this should be the MAF sensor, or possiblely a vacuum leak.
well, from past experience (different car), if you had a vacuum leak, your idle will probably show it...
As for the lean codes, I have a small fix... this is just what i did, and it worked for me. I'm not telling you to do it.
Our '01 LS430 threw a "System Lean bank 1 & 2" codes recently, so I checked the MAF. Sure enough, at 100k, the wires on the sensor (where it picks up the air flow) looked "coated" with oil, dirt, etc. I used brake cleaner
and sprayed the resistor looking wires in the MAF. After cleaning the dirt/oil off.. it dried fast, and the car runs great... no more lean condition. You can buy special "MAF" cleaner sprays, but they're all the same to me.
oh, btw, when taking emissions test... make sure you are running 91 octane or higher.. and fuel additives will help. One that I like is the AMSOIL PI "performance improver". Helps clean your valves, gunk, and the formula is said to reduce hydrocarbons. All I know is it works well for me, and most people who tried it all liked it.
