Anyone else's LS has built in rain replellant like the Rain-X stuff built into their drive and passenger side windows? I always had noticed it in my Ultra and thought that was a feature but got a 2008 ES350 as a loaner car today and notice that its driver and passenger side also repels water. The rear windows acted "normally". What year did they start doing this? Dealer said it was built into the glass - Aquapel or something like that.
Is it actually permanently built in? To me it just sounds like some fancy nomenclature for waxing the glass with either wax or some sort of silicon/teflon substance.
I'm pretty sure the LS430 has the front windows with the water repellent coating, or film, or whatever they use. The GS430 has it only on the front windshield

It's actually built-in somehow. Per the 2004 LS430 brochure, under Safety & Security: "Water-repellant front windshield and front-door glass."
its very funny i noticed this thread....i was wondering why the water was receding so fast from the windshield and the side glass so fast!! now i know!!...i guess you live and learn!!
Is this something that needs maintaining or as long as the windshield is clean? Is there anyway to tell if our cars have it other than driving in the rain?

Mine is an 04 and I never put any rain-x or other additive on the car and it still works. When you wash your car, as you spray water on the windows, it just beads up and like a Teflon pan, it glides right off. I think its built right into it.
