Took our 03 430 in for the TSB - no problem done under warranty, barely! Our warranty expires end of this month, whew! No more grinding noise on retraction of the steering wheel.

 

Took my 430 in for routine maintenance yeserday so I mentioned this very same issue. I have a CPO so everything is under warranty, but I was wondering how much it would have cost me if I had to pay.

 

Just picked up my car with the creak fixed. Wow, what a difference. Near silent operation. Before, I would hear the electric motor retracting in and sometimes hearing the squeaking creak sound. Now, no electric motor sound at all, almost eerie as I got so used listening for the retract noise. On another note, does anyone else's folding mirror make noise when retracting? Same thing, electric motor noise, now I wonder if that should be silent

 

My mirrors are almost silent. In fact, I had the car a week before I realized they were retracting. I switched them off because it's a feature I don't really need and I didn't want to wear out the motors.

My opinion is that having the feature turned off all the time you'll probably wear out the motors sooner than if they were left on once in a while. Inactivity in the motors can lead to loss of lubrication of components and/or corrosion which can kill the motor prematurely. I'd recommend turning them on once in a while if you can.

 

Sounds like good advice to me. I will go ahead and turn them on once in a while.
