Default Lexus Link, 2002 LS430

Let me get this straight...

Lexus link is useless on all '02 LS's, correct? On the Lexus site, I read something about the cell phone communication system being analog instead of digital. Since cell phone companies went digital, Lexus link is non compatible, therefore useless.

Is this is true, is there anything to make the system operative again?

When I press the button, there is a lady that always answer, does'nt that mean it is still working?

What year LS do you have? I recently read that the 02's (at least) have analog cellular. When cell companies went all digital, that was the end of most Lexus Link Subscribers.

There is something about previous subscribers being grandfathered in, but that doesn't apply to me. One would think there'd be a workaround for that, though. Oh well.

Still luv mah' LS

By a certain time this year, im thinking summer, the 01-02 Lexus link wont work. All cell service went digital and no analog service will be available.

Some areas of the country are going to all digital quicker than others, I understand that analog will be totally gone no later than mid 2008. Differences may be due to how many of the analog phones the various providers still have on contract vs the cost for them to keep the service up.

For GM cars, a kit is available for $15 to upgrade from analog to digital for their ON STAR system (the same one Lexus uses for Lexus link).

I wonder why Lexus didn't develop a similar kit.

The thing that puzzels me is that I did not pay for the service for the past 2 years yet it is still functioning.

After washing my car last week, I pushed the button on my 02'. Just curious.

A lady answered (kinda creepy!)

Anyway, she told me that the service would be discontinued by the end of May 07', and only previous analog current members would be grandfathered into the digital system.

It would be cool if Lexus provides a fix. Not that I plan to use it, but it would be a selling point. That's another reason I was looking for an 03' or '04. Oh well.

So, there's no 3rd party upgrade? No nothing. We're just without emergency services that we purchased ($1000) after Feb. 2008?

I received a notice years ago about this. Lexus sent over a tech, who removed the buttons from the overhead, and replaced them with a plain eyeglasses holder. So my '02 doesn't even have the button anymore. They sent me some kind of gift as well at the time.

Same analog/digital rationale given.

I pushed the button and talked to the lady again and she confirmed that the service will be discontinued by December 2007.
