Just got an 01 Ultra LS430 and seemed perfect at first but sometimes I think I am going nuts! Here are some observations/issues:

1. When car is in reverse... for the first 2 weeks the mirrors tilted down. Boy..nice feature! Suddenly stopped last night. No idea why.

2. Heat.... Now again maybe it is me but put heat on 70 and it was HOT! Put it on 85...same HOT. A few minutes later put down to 70 again and much cooler. Reverse hs also happened... cold cold cold until it goes to 80 and then HOT. I thought it was me... colder some days than others so maybe I felt cold & hot differently. But there was no reduction or increase in heat...stayed very much the same.

3. Folding mirrors... I swear this does not work with the set #1 position. I sit in park... get seat/wheel where I want. SET + 1 .... BEEP. Ok great. Mirrors on AUTO. WHat are mirrors supposed to do? Stay where they were when I hit SET + 1 right? Ok so i switch the mirrors to fold. Does it 50% of the time. No clue. With that sometimes seat/wheel are not in #1 position even if i just left it in #1. Maybe its me?

4. Now heres the biggie. Drive around the corner. Stop car for 30 minutes. COme out car starts... put in drive... i can hear engine rev up but im not moving! all of a sudden it hits into first gear. Hmm maybe I had it in neutral? Get to a light.... light changes green ... same thing! Go home.. start today and not even a glitch. HUH? Cant bring to dealer as they will say I am nuts.

Also when i start in morning... the cranking of the car sure seems very very low like when you have a weak battery.... like duhhhhh duhhh duhhhhhh start. Not like a strong duhduhduh start...

Anyone ever experience any of these?? Im thinkin its me but some things cannot be. Whats the best approach for when I bring it in (extended warranty)... bring a case of beer for them lol?

if the mirrors on your 01 work like my 05,, have to have the center mirror control moved to either the left or the right side for reverse tilt down,, will not tilt down when in the center position,,

for #3 & #4:
I wouldn't even worry about it if you have warranty. Drive up to the dealer, and them what you told us. Enjoy the drinks, and the loaner until your ride is done. Why even hassle with it. Thats why you paid for the warranty.

#1 is easy... just move the mirror slider to either side, depending on if you want both of them to go down, or just passenger side.

#2 I dont understand clearly.

The last one... get a new battery with a higher cold cranking amps. That should solve your problem. Also, clean your terminals, and make sure the negative cable is tightly strapped while your at it.

 

1. Exactly what is happening with mine.
2. Sounds like you need to have Lexus check your HVAC system
3. I don't have a #1 or +1 like you do. But yes, my mirrors sometimes don't fold as well.
4. So it is as if you rev it up in neutral THEN put it in D (but you had been in D all along)? Well, it sounds like a problem that will get worse over time. The clutch maybe.. or an excessive wear in your transmission.

I'd quickly take advantage of the extended warranty. You know, I had a 2003 Mercedes E-Class, and there were many problems that come and go. (Usually came when I was driving, and gone by the time I get to the dealer, then come back again after I left the dealer.) I just went in, typed all the problems I encountered on a piece of paper and asked them to fix the problems under warranty. A lot of problems wasn't showing up on the day I took the car in, but they did a computer diagnosis and found the problems anyway. Yes, they thought I was nuts at first... I didn't really care though, I had problems with the car and they needed to fix it for me, under warranty.

 

Called dealer.. bringing it in. Service manager was surprised when i said tranny issue... so am i!

Wife confirmed some of the quirkiness I had been seeing...and witnessed the severe tranny issue. So its not me lol..

Does lexus have a diagnostic tool that can find issues that maybe cannot be replicated in person? Boy that would be a huge help as I usually feel like a dope trying to explain issue.
