can anyone tell me the common problems to look for in the 2001 line up ?

Yeah, easy, there are virtually no problems. (Except if you buy a 2004)

rough idle and drive belt noise and brakes noise in a LS, thats very odd!!! noise general for an LS is odd

I have drive belt noise, may be belt, may be pully bearings, either way its a flaw, but not one to lose sleep over since its a cheap fix.

i'm my 01 LS I had a problem with the hub bearings which caused awful vibration. It was a $1K fix.....

Brake noise is the real problem.
Paint chipping easily.
