Default Electric Trunk?

Does the '01-03 LS430 have electric trunks that open and close? When the trunk latch is pulled, is the trunk supposed to open all the way up? Also, does anyone know how much replacement trunk shocks are?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim - That would be a nice feature, wouldn't it? I have an 04 and popping the trunk via the inside switch or the key fob just unlatches the trunk. You still have to lift it by hand. My previous MB had a simple approach - spring loaded latches that popped the lid all the up. You still had to shut it manually, unless you bought the power trunk option. And opening the LS trunk is not that easy when those struts are new. I use my trunk a lot and that feature missing almost had me in the A8L - which has that feature standard. Maybe by the time my lease is up Lexus will at least offer it as an option.

I dont know why this feature was left out.. I also drove the A8L before getting the LS and it had the auto trunk which is also available on the 7 and S. The A8 also had more room in the back which was a plus. I do like the interior of the LS more and the ride is much better on the LS

That's one MB feature that I'd like to see on the LS. That, and an external trunk release like Volvo's (where you just touch it just above the license plate light to unlock it). I don't like having to use the key or inside remote switch to open the trunk.

With the smartkey there is an external button that allows you to open the trunk if you have the key on you. It's just to the right of the backup camera.

The LS460 has auto open and close on the trunk, so you guys just need to "upgrade." As for switch, once you go SmartAccess on the 430, you can open the trunk by pressing a simple button on the trunk lid under chrome bar.

Personally, don't miss the auto opening or closing.

With new struts the trunk lid will stay open after raising it approximately 12 inches or so. OEM struts cost $100 each.
