Default Mystery chimes meaning?

Riding along, daylight, no radio on, in a 2005 LS 430 when there's a loud series of mysterious chimes...about the lenght of an old radio id. Nothing shows on the dash pannel. Nothing apparently wrong. This has happened 3 times in the 3 months I've had the car.

Any one with any ideas as to the source or meaning of these?

The only time I heard a mysterious chime was when I tried putting in a CD at the wrong time...have you used any NAVI reminders...prolly not I guess, not that it would leave a sound

Checking the manual, there should be a message on the instrument panel for chimes when:

1) Smart Key battery is low
2) Door opened etc

I also get a chime and a warning message when using Radar/laser Cruise Control and my windshield wipers. It cuts off the cruise due to weather. Interesting...

Thanks for all the suggestions. One tone seems to be from having set a memory point in the nav system to have a sound. That caused the chimes to ring 1/2 mile away. Go figure.

But there's still one unexplained chime event 12 miles away from the above mentioned memory point. We shall see if it happens again.

Its in the nav system. Wheln you set a memory point it gives you a chance to set an icon to be associated with that point. At that point you can choose a different page with special icons that have various sounds associated with them.

Then when you arrive at the destination, or approach it, you get the sound.

Usefull? Not for me but...

I like the chimes feature for my vacation places (yearly to the shore). Once I've driven a few hours, the chimes are like trumpets hailing my arrival. Its as if to say, "Yes, we are 'there yet'"

But thats just me... Im odd like that
