VSC Off Check VSC reset Launch Creader Elite Toyota Lexus
I bought a used 2001 Lexus LS430 with 268,000+ miles and I have done some preventative maintenance. I'm still working towards getting more maintenance done in the future.
I just bought a 2026 LAUNCH Creader Elite V2.0 fit for Toyota Lexus Bi-Directional Scan Tool. I tried Techstream and it wasn't working for me. It would connect and scan but health reports were populating blank data.
I'm trying to clear code C1231, steering angle position sensor. I think it's setting my VSC Off - Check VSC warning indicators on with the Red Triangle exclamation mark.
I saw the data and it shows my steering angle is set at 1150?
Any suggestions how i can reset it? I just finished getting a four wheel alignment from The Alignment Factory in Miami, FL. The car is driving straight.
I tried the paper clip method, it's not working.
I also noticed VSC 31 on the gauge cluster when doing the paper clip method and launch creader scan tool method.
At what point did the code arrive. If it was after hooking up a scan tool that most likely caused it as this car is very finicky what is hooked to port. Only way I get rid of it on mine is techstream to recalibrate and have to do test at end or will not reset.
In my case the C1231 didn’t show up after plugging in any scan tool. I actually bought the car with the code already stored, so whatever triggered it happened before I owned it. I’m currently using a Launch Creader Elite Toyota / Lexus, which lets me read the steering angle just fine, but it won’t clear the C1231. I’ve been trying to get Techstream working because I know that’s the only reliable way to do the proper zero‑point calibration and run the test sequence afterward. The problem is the Mini‑VCI cable I bought from Amazon isn’t communicating with the ECUs at all. Techstream connects to the cable, but the Health Check comes back blank and every ECU shows up as white with asterisks.
With the mini-vci cable did you install the 64 bit driver for your computer if it is 64 bit? Also what version of techstream are you using and did you use the one that came with the cable?

Yeah, I installed the 64‑bit drivers successfully on Windows 11. The cable shows up correctly and even passes the MVCI test program. I’m running Techstream v14 on my main system, and I also tried a Windows 7 virtual machine with Techstream v12 just to rule out any OS issues.
In both setups the cable is detected, but when I connect to the car the Health Check comes back blank and the ECU list shows white boxes with asterisks. So the driver installs fine, but the cable itself isn’t actually communicating with the ECUs.
I haven't tried the techstream v18.
I ended up returning the "Aidixun Mini-VCI J2534 Cable Firmware 1.4.1 for Toyota Techstream, Toyota Tis Cable,Techstream Software". Bought it from Amazon.

I had a similar issue with the VXdiag VCX nano for toyota (white boxes with *). Bought a cable off eBay and that worked fine with v18 on win 10x64
Thanks for the info, that actually helps a lot. I’m thinking of trying the eBay cable you linked since my Amazon Mini‑VCI clearly isn’t communicating with the ECUs (white boxes with asterisks). I did install the 64‑bit drivers correctly and tested the cable on both Windows 11 (Techstream v14) and a Windows 7 VM (Techstream v12). The cable shows up fine, but it won’t talk to the car. If your eBay cable worked with Techstream v18 on Win10 x64, I’m definitely willing to try that combo next.
You may want to try v18 first since v17 didn't work for me but v18 did.
Good to know v18 worked for you, that’s really helpful. Since my Mini‑VCI from Amazon isn’t communicating with the ECUs at all, I’m planning to try another cable along with Techstream v18. Do you have any suggestions on which specific Amazon listing to go with for a reliable cable? There are a bunch of different Mini‑VCI versions on there, so if there’s one you’ve had good luck with (or one you’d avoid), I’d appreciate the recommendation.
Once it arrives, I’m going to install Techstream v18 and give it a try. I’ll report back with results after I test communication with the ECUs and attempt the zero‑point calibration.
Quick question for anyone who has Techstream fully working on a 3rd‑gen LS430.
Would someone mind posting a screenshot of their setup?
I’m trying to confirm what a successful connection looks like on this chassis (ABS/VSC modules showing up correctly, no white boxes with asterisks, etc.).
It would really help me compare once my new cable arrives and I install Techstream v18.
If anyone has a working setup on a 2001–2006 LS430, a screenshot / screenshots would be super helpful.

I have a 2003 and none of the white boxes had an * as I did go through all the module functions but only turned off the DRL and auto tilt away function so far.
It does turn on the VSC light each time I use it but a jumper on the DLC pins clears that. I have an OBD2 extension cable which makes it easier to put the jumper in while not having to contort under the dash.

Quick question for comparison: when you connect Techstream, does it automatically detect your VIN? Last time I tried, I had to manually enter mine.
Appreciate you sharing your setup, it gives me a good reference point while I sort out my own.
No it did detect the VIN... you also don’t need to enter it either to use techstream.
Good to know, thanks for confirming. On my 2001 it didn’t auto‑detect the VIN the last time I tried, so I had to enter it manually before doing anything. Just wanted to compare experiences since you’re getting full module access on your ’03. Appreciate the info, it helps me narrow down what might be going on with my setup.
