Suggestions for replacing Mark Levinson subwoofer?
My ML subwoofer is blown, cant have it about 1/3 the way up without hearing it rattle and distortion. Was looking for suggestions on a replacement, dont need anything crazy, just dont want do deal with adding an amp and extra wiring./ Preferably something that can just "drop in" and hookup to the stock wires, and I wouldnt mind shaving a little if thats needed for it to fit. From what Ive collected seems like it needs to be 8" and 4 OHMs to connect to the stock wiring. Is there a max watt RMS I shouldnt go above? I assume where it sits is a sealed enclosure, anyone know the volume in cubic feet? Anything else I should consider? Thanks for any help and suggestions!

ML sub is 16 ohms which limits choice. This has dual 8 ohm voice coils so you can run it at 16 ohms.

And no, it’s not in a sealed enclosure. It’s more of a padded baffle kind of setup. Either stock or full build are the best options in my opinion.

This. It’s only about $30 if memory serves correctly, you’ll keep the correct ohm rating, and it sounds as good if not better that anything you’d have to rig up to somewhat work.

The reason to just re foam is to get the correct impedance and no mounting problems but others on this forum have replaced with success. OEM will not read exactly 16 ohms dc resistance as the 16 ohms is ac impedance at a certain frequency. These amps have been blown by putting wrong one in but get close to the 16 ohms and should be ok.

The suggestion is to refoam the factory sub because the sub is already the perfect match for the system and it’s the cheapest option.

If it was blown you would get no sound out of it at all.
That is why people are quoting you for the foam.
If you can fix it with a re-foam, the OEM Sub is the best for the ML system.
If you can't then there are a few options (mine has the DaytonAudio 8+8) but you need to be careful not to fit a low impedance Sub (below 8ohms) because that will blow your amp.
My OEM Sub was blown, as the wire from the cone to the voice coil had broken where I couldn't repair it.
