Default WTF Wheel Studs!

Surprised to see that the aftermarket wheels that were installed by Park Place Lexus should have used longer wheel studs. Best I can tell it has been this way from new and never any mention of them being too short.

I'll get some longer ones and swap them out... not sure what the stock length is and also what the longest stud length that will fit in the rear. The front has an access hole but what I've seen on the rear you can't go too long. I'm not crazy about the wheels but the wife likes them and it is her car. I assume if I swap in longer studs, stock wheels with the acorn style lug nut wont fit.

I think I may be able to talk her into going with stock style 18" 5 star chrome wheels. Current tires have decent tread but are aging out.

Thread engagement - Rule of thumb for steel wheels:
For an M12 x 1.5 lug stud, the nut should engage at least 1 stud diameter of (nut) threads. In this case, 12mm.

Thread engagement - Rule of thumb for aluminum wheels:
For an M12 x 1.5 lug stud, the nut should engage at least 1.5 stud diameters of (nut) thread. In this case, 18mm.

Looks like the stock studs are 40mm according to what I see on rock auto. Changed the kinked up brake hose on the RF and went to do the LF brake hose and found 2 of the lug nuts that were loosened before raising the vehicle would not come off. Had my son apply the brakes and proceeded to break both studs in removing them. Must have been mushroomed or ?

Of course there are also two different lug nuts heights also.

I'll be changing them all since I broke two. Went with the 63mm and ordered new lug nuts too. I'm pretty sure they are short enough to fit in the rear.

Best I can tell, the stock length is 40mm, both front and rear. This is measured:

Changed out the wheel studs with longer 63mm studs and fitting them in the back wasn't a problem. Was a pretty easy task and in my case worth the effort and expense.

Order everything off Amazon... 63mm wheel studs for ~$40 two 10 packs @$19/ea. although they each had 11, wheel stud installer for $10 (worked great) and a new set of lug nuts for $15.
