Default B1S1 HO2 Sensor Wiring Repair

Hey Everyone, I am new to this forum and the LS430. I recently picked up a 2005 LS with 144,000 miles. After driving the car for a few weeks a CEL came on and the code read P0031. I took to a trusted mechanic and he replaced the B1S1 sensor with a Denso sensor. The code came back 10 minutes after leaving the shop. I made a follow-up appointment with the shop for later next week, but in the meantime I took the car to my cousin (he is a mechanic as well) and we dove into the wiring diagrams to further diagnose this issue. Here is what we confirmed using a multimeter and the attached P0031 guide:
  • Tested the new B1S1 sensor resistance and confirmed the heated sensor is good.
  • Verified the EFI Main relay is good and tested resistance in the connector of Engine Room #1
  • Verified fuses for EFI1 and EFI2 are good.
  • Checked the voltage of ECM connector E5 HT1A connection and got 4V which may explain the low voltage from the ECM but I am not sure. The specified range for this connection is 9 to 14V

We believe the issue exists in the heater circuit wiring on the harness under the car or the ECM itself. The leading hypothesis at this point is the heat over the years/miles has caused some short in the wiring on the harness. The problem is the B1S1 wiring is so far under the car that we cannot inspect to find the issue. The heat shield and catalytic converter are preventing us from accessing the wiring and repair. The question for this group is, what is the best way to access the wiring harness from the car to the sensor? Is there anyway to access this loom from inside the car (via pulling carpeting or otherwise)? Looking for any DIYers who have had this same/similar issue and have repaired.

Lastly, I am not a mechanic or someone who knows a lot about automotive electronics so if anything I have described doesn't make sense or isn't clear let me know. Thank you all for your help on this!
