It's a low mile, low optioned LS430; ML system (with a blown sub), navigation (kinda useless), Lexus Link (also useless), heated seats, voice command. No plans for it, other than to drive it.
Other than the subwoofer, there are some other niggling things that bug me (incorrect fasteners under the hood, missing clips and cargo net loops in the trunk, K&N sticker on the filter box, etc), but nothing affecting function.
For now, I just need to go thru what service records that exist (short list), physically go thru the vehicle and work to establish a baseline.
Bummer about the 400 but at least the payout isn’t bad. Welcome to the 3rd gen section. Blown sub is deteriorated foam surround 99% of the time. New foam surrounds are cheap and easy to replace and I’m sure you can get correct fasteners for pretty cheap as well. Should be a solid car for a while if at least basic maintenance was done.
Just a few images of the interior. There's a dirty (grease?) area on the carpet at the dead pedal that needs attention, but other than that everything else looks presentable. The leather is still soft and pliable. The dash pad has a slight lift above the wood trim near the passenger side register. The pass-thru behind the rear center arm rest still has the plastic shipping wrap over it.
I've been going thru the service records that were chicken scratched in the maintenance book and what Carfax has reported. Chronologically and mileage-wise, they don't match up. Carfax reports that service was performed exclusively by a Lexus dealership; I'll stop into my local dealer to see if I can get whatever records they have. There is a timing belt sticker under the hood that reads replacement was done in June 2012 at 13,692. Time for another belt change.
For anyone who doesn't visit the 400 side, Paulo is an asset to the forum.
A long-time source of knowledgeable and credible advice.
Welcome to the 430 community!
Welcome to the "Dark Side" Paolo <LOL>
Sorry to hear about your LS400. They are lovely cars.
What did you pay for your LS430?
25k miles is seriously low for a 22 year old car.
All in, the price of the LS430 was $22.4k and some change. Minus the payout for the LS400, my out of pocket was $12k.
It was a one owner car; I think the reason for the low miles is it had handicap plates. Which in and of itself doesn't really mean anything. I have a good friend who gets around in a scooter and she droves all over the country in her Nissan Rogue. TBH, old cars with low miles have their problems. Cars are meant to be driven and letting them sit isn't good for them.
That would explain it. Sounds like a decent deal.
Yes, in the dry climate of CA you won't have to worry about rust, but all the rubber parts will need checking and possible replacement.
The LS430 is not massively different from your old Mk4 LS400, so you should be fine with the change.
Enjoy her :-)
