Default GROM VLine Installation & Troubleshooting Thread

Hello All,
I received my group buy GROM VLine VL2 and have a good grasp on removal of the navigation system to install the GROM harness but that's where my confidence ends. Where is everybody mounting the unit itself and how are you running the wires to it? Also, where is everyone installing the microphone and running that wire? Thanks in advance!

You'll probably have to mount it in your glovebox. I had a GROM VLite for a little while, and I was barely able to squeeze it in underneath the radio. The VLine is a little bigger, so I doubt it will fit. If I remember correctly from seeing other installations on here, you'll have to drill a hole in the glovebox to pass the wires through. Don't have experience with the microphone wire in this car, since I just use the built in bluetooth for calling. I've seen some people on here run up the driver's side A-pillar so it sticks out near the flip-down sun shade. On my old ES330, there was space to route the wire behind the radio and out from above the pedals, then I mounted the microphone to the left of the ignition. I've never looked in my LS, but I'd bet that there's a similar gap that you could run the cable through. Mounting on the A-pillar would definitely make for a cleaner install, but I don't know how much of the dash would need to be taken apart to route the wire that way.

Microphone up the passenger side pillar and under the headliner. Stick it near the driver mirror.

The grom unit goes in the lower glovebox on a 01-03, otherwise just sits in the glovebox on anything else. It's too big unfortunately to mount anywhere else. All the harnesses and wires can be taped up nicely and you don't need to drill any holes in the glovebox. There's space in the rear for the wires to come through. You also need to have it accessible if you ever need to access the USB and flash it.

Did you get it finished?
Use a nylon poker and tuck the microphone at the top of the plastic trim along the drivers door to clip the microphone. Run the cord (WAY) up and over the pedals and pull it back across behind the stock audio stuff over to the glovebox.

You will need to update it w wifi occasionally but overall works great. -connect w bluetooth it will ask you to use carplay after a bit - and voila!
On my IS350 I actually had a couple things plugged in wrong so I had a humming for a while till I corrected. But leave it to me to goof up something pretty simple.
