Default Shift Problem on 2001 LS430

Howdy All,

I wanted to know if anyone had a problem like this with one of your Lexus. I have a 2001 Lexus LS430 with about 100K miles on it. One morning I turned it on and it did this. Car now idles high while in park. Getting it checked out next week. Anyone have any idea what it could be? I have attached a video and picture. As you can see it says it is in park and drive simultaneously.

Thank you for the insight!

I'd simply check the inside of a NSS(neutral safety switch) attached to the side of the AT unit. There may be a foreign object which may be a copper dust piece at contacts related to the white letter D. It's a bit time consuming job to remove the NSS and see inside, I must add.

I just gotta say, I wish every car forum had someone with the wealth of knowledge like you do Yamae. You always have the best information on the weird problems.

Thank you for the insight! I was able to pull the history code and it turns out it looks like you are correct sir. It gave me a P1780 code saying I most likely need to replace the NSS. I am going to have a Toyota dealership do it that is about an hour and a half away. I do have a question. Would I be risking any significant damage to my vehicle while this is going on? It eventually goes away the light turns off but don’t want to drive it down just for it to break on the way there. Would rather tow! Thank you in Advance.
