Default my stereo unit is haunted?

for context I have a 1997 with the pioneer. so currently, I am to belive it's an amp issue, going into safety mode and making no music play. but I just want to figure it out because I'm sick of quiet car rides. so basically, what happens is a majority of the time when my LS has been sitting off for a good amount of time, I can go turn it on and the radio will start right up, but after a little bit of being fine, it gets a little choppy and staticy and then just completely cuts all noise from it. I'll go park the car and when i turn it back on, still no music. any ideas? I'm just annoyed that music is a coin flip for me

the amp is located under the pass side front seat under a cover. see if any liquid spilled in there and check the wiring.

does the headunit remain on but just no sound? it can also be a defective headunit.

also check the antenna connection in the trunk (left side under the cover). does the antenna extend and retract ok? even if it's broken you should still get some sound from the speakers as long as the coaxial wire is connected to the antenna assembly in the trunk (and back of the headunit too). you can also run a CD (or cassette) to confirm it's not just an antenna issue.

so with cd and cassette, it does the same thing. the head united remains on, just does the eventually cutting out thing.. I can check the amp, but the head unit always stays on.
