The steering wheel only works when the car warms up (sometimes) does anyone know how to fix it.......

There's an old TSB for this problem. You have to remove the plastic covers around the steerting column and extense the lenth of the wires harness by untape it from the main harness. The problem is they tape the wire harness for teloscopic to tight to the main harness and when you adjust it to the most forward position, the connector don't make good contact.

No, just for the 95 LS, early production of the 2nd gen LS.

If your's works ok when the car warms up it could be just a sticky switch ( it's just to the right of the switch inside where you but in the key) I sprayed some silicone onto the switch inside the slot and pushed the key in and out a bunch of times just far to activate the switch to start the wheel to move......If your's is not this type of problem than it is the gear inside the steering column..............If it is the gear problem it is caused by holding the wheel when in motion and getting out of the car.......you should wait to exit the car after the wheel stops.......But who has time!!!!!!!!!! LEXKOST when i put the key in to the ignition swtich it starts to move but then it stops. so i try and use the joy stick on the side and that just moves a little and then stops. i have to play with the joy stick for a few sec. before i get it to move all the way out and all the way down. so do you still think it is the button in the ignition switch? And trust me I am very atentive and careful to my car and i make sure i dont pull on it until it stops to get out of the car........

I have a 95 LS400 and I find that if I am gentle with the key, the telescope wheel acts better. Sometimes, I even remove key slowly (find the contact spot) and the wheel will respond. "I feel like I'm writing an X-rated movie script. Anyway, the slow back and forth with key helps mine. Seems like the wheel responds just after the key is first inserted and slow insertion works. Again, sorry ....don't quite know how to better describe. Good Luck

I have a 95 and have noticed a similar pattern. The telescoping does not always act the same. Also, using the memory function for seat/telescope, the telescoping does not position where the memory was set. I suspect that the gearing needs to cleaned and adjusted or the wiring is restricting the movement.

As a preventative measure, I NEVER pull on the wheel to get out, I just use the Apillar for leverage! Try it maybe it will help over time. I'm very nervous about that telescope function myself. I dont know why they took away the disable button in newer models
