Ok here goes. For those kind members who have been following and commenting on this thread, here is the latest. It takes a really long time to get stuff from Ebay to here so that's the reason its been a while.

I ordered a couple of igniters and they eventually arrived and, after I installed them, the car started and worked. However a few days later it happened again but this time I noticed that the Viper alarm was flashing the park lights continuously (the siren went bad a while ago) which indicated the alarm was going off and the valet switch was having no effect. So long story short, I disconnected the Viper and voila! All was well again.

So my conclusion is that I really did have an igniter problem (very rare) coupled with an intermittent immobilizer problem from the Viper. A BAD, NASTY combo. Anyway thanks a whole lot to everyone who contributed. I very much appreciated your time and expertise. For now though I'm back on the road - until the next time!

And Yamae I still need a backup ECU if you ever find one...

Congratulation and thanks for the update. I'm glad that you were able to figure it out for now. Your continuous efforts made it possible. Many aftermarket products are not quite reliable, I find so again today. Toyota does extensive reliability tests to every part but many aftermarket companies do not.

Regarding the availability of the ECU, there seldom appears the ECU for a UCF10/11 at the Yahoo Auction Japan these days. But currently this one is waiting for a bid. Unfortunately it's not for a 93 but for a 90-92. I'll let you know when an ECU for a 93 comes out.

Hi Yamae, nice to hear from you and thanks for your comments.

Please Keep in mind that the numbers I need are either 89661-50170 or, preferably, 89661-50171.

If you come across any of these numbers at auction or anywhere else I WANT IT without question.

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me.
