Default Locked trunk

Any ways to unlock the trunk?

I bought the car with 1 key, and had been opening it via the cabin. I tried using the key but it doesn't work. The key starts the car, but doesn't lock/unlock the trunk.

I pressed the lock next to the trunk button and now the trunk is locked. Can't open it because the key doesn't work for that lock (just like the lock on the trunk). What are my options? Thanks

Sounds like you got the valet key with the car.

Looking at your profile, you have a 1999, so the Valet key looks like this:

The main difference from the master key is that the Valet key has no buttons and is greyer than the master, which is black.

You can see the difference in the second photo here, where this owner shows his 2001 ES keys:

Note that the fob in the first picture matches the key for 1995-1997 UCF2x LS 400. In 1998, the buttons for the fob were combined with the master keys.

If you do some searching around, there is probably some more info to help you plan on programming a master key and getting one cut. There is only a slight difference in the cut for master vs valet. More here:

You're right. That's the key I have. It doesn't open the trunk or the glove box or the lock next to the gas and trunk.

I managed to open the trunk by disassembling the area around the lock, and when and pressed something on the lock and that reset it. Took like 5 minutes. Now I can use the trunk again. But the key is still lacking.

I'm going to have to look into making a master key on my own, since the dealer is definitely going to charge me like hell lol.

You have a 1999 LS400(?)

Same key works ignition switch, door and trunk locks?

Is your key worn?

If so, only a matter of time before it doesn't work in ignition or door locks.

If worn, have dealer make laser cut key using your VIN # ....

After doing so, if trunk lock does not operate, perhaps it is frozen from lack of use and lubricant..

If so, apply lock specific lubricant.

Lexus offers an upgraded mil spec key fob that will not break when applying additional torque as will the OEM key fob assembly.

Did you verify trunk lid latch switch continuity?

If the fuse for your trunk lock solenoid circuit has not blown, then you probably need to replace the trunk lid solenoid latch assembly.

Another possibility is your trunk is locked at dashboard. This image depicts locked trunk position (but does not lock gas filler door)

Image depicting unlocked position..keylock extends further out.

Just posted a trunk lid project:

Both my master keys have these cuts on the edges which the valet key doesn't have.

Master Key (top); Valet Key (bottom)
