Good question. Well, I took 6 years of Japanese so I know it doesn't say assman . Here's a little info...the top kanji characters indicate the prefecture the car is registered, I don't know about the number at the top though. The bottom is the kanji character for 7. Maybe one of our Japanese members could shed some more light on this....

Plate reads

___________________________

’·–ì 90 = Nagano 90

‚¹‚S‚O‚O@ = Se 400

___________________________

Nagano refering to the Licensing Bureau that issued it

90 is the Series of the plate

Se is just an alphabet listing of the number....

Cheers,

Higuma

Not really prefecture but kinda a regional licencing bureau... My plate says ŽD–y@for Sapporo... the lower Kanji is just a hiragana character not a number.... this is the character for seven or nana ޵.... you were real close though...

Thus ends todays Nihingo lesson.....

Soooo close . Oh well, it has been more than 5 years since I took Nihongo. You forget a lot when you don't use it .

Thanks for clearing this all up Higuma.
