Question Which would you buy.......

I'm looking to get either a 90-93 LS 400 or a 92-94 ES 300 as a daily driver. I know they are at opposite ends of the scale & they each have their own (expensive) problems, LS: cluster & HVAC displays, PS pump / alternator & A/C system vs. the ES: Oil leaks, Transmissions & Engine gelling. In the long run, which one would be less of a money pit?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Damn, you can simply find an LS in a better shape! Anything to do with tranny/leaks problems will be very expensive.

All I can say is that my first Lexus was a pre-owned 93 LS400 with 54,000 miles and I traded it around
96,000 miles without a single problem.

ES300 = Entry level model.
LS400 = Flagship.

Thanks for the replies so far. Lvangundy, why not a 90? First model year bugs?

Get the '94 LS !!, ES' Tranny problems cost a lot !! However, you would spend more money on gasoline for the V8.

I think I'm leaning towards the LS at this point. First thoughts would be the build quality / materials going into the Flagship model vs. the entry level model (although the ES is of great quality as well)

Thanks for everyone's input.

Default LS400

I just changed the timing belt on my 1990 LS400 after 120k miles. The V8 is an amazing engine- two distributers hiding inside the camshaft sprokets! For certain one fo the best and coolest engines ever made. It's a really fun car to go from 30 to 90 in as well. All the problems are easy to fix (except for that pesky dash).
