Default fixing up a 1992 LS 400

17 years old, just bought a pretty nasty 92 LS for 350. will be documenting its revival and likely asking for quite a bit of help. needs a new timing belt and seals according to previous owner. will most definitely need more than a new belt as is the nature of buying used cars.

Nice! only 350 bucks? That's a helluva deal. I bought my 92 for 800 and it was a pile of garbage, way worse than yours. How many miles does it have?

Very nice looking car especially for that kinda money! (Note: it's closer to 27yrs old, but don't let that worry you)

I think he's saying he is 17. But either way, don't let the work that it needs worry you, there's alot of good info here and the T-belt tutorial here; http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/engine/timingbelt.html I can see you already got that nasty spill cleaned up on the center console so keep it up. It looks alot better then some others that cost more.

Hovering a little bit above 150,000 miles. Thanks

Oh, thanks for the correction. His age can only be an advantage - no back pain, no sore knees, and no chunky fingers that don't fit anywhere in the engine compartment (that's why I get my son to help me )

Aint that the truth, that's why I'm not looking forward to the major job I need to do on mine which I didn't want to do.

But this is an excellent specimen to start with. It's in damn good shape physically (don't know mechanically) to be paying only $350 and just 150K miles. Wow. I didn't know $300 cars still existed. I hope the T-belt is the only thing wrong for ya. Good find.

So far, every time I saw a great looking exterior and interior, like on this example, the car was mechanically good too. Every time the exterior and/or interior were bad, the rest was bad too, down to the oil being pitch black and coolant being too low. Never fails. I think this one is a one in a million find, honestly (for that kinda money). Heck, when you think about it, even if it needs a whole new engine or transmission, you can get a low mileage one from Japan for a song ($750 or so).

Nasty? That thing is pretty clean, at least from the pics. A few months ago I bought a non running 92 for $500 and I turned around and sold it for $2500 after I fixed it up for cheap.

There’s a decent amount of potential value ya got there

Don’t worry man, I started on this forum when I was 16 with LOTS of questions, stupid ones.... I didn’t know how to use a wrench or even where oil went, now I can take most of this car apart like nothing. This car is very special and so are it’s members. Great car for 350$

So true about how a car looks being an indicator of how it was taken care of mechanically. Most cars I see for $350 are garbage cans. Great find!
