Sway Bar rubbing axle
I have a 97 LS400, recently put on 18" wheels with 254/40/18 tires. The new wheel diameter is approximately 1/2 inch smaller than stock. Since the change I have seen the rear sway bar linkage
rub the axle when braking, the creates an annoying metal on metal rubbing noise. The noise went
away when the stock wheels were put back.
Any suggestions or comments on fixes or modifications

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question other than to repond with I hope your not stuck with a set if tires and wheels you can't use.
This reminds me of a guy that went to the doctor and the doc asked him what was wrong. The guy holds his arm out straight and then bends his arm at the elbow to touch his hand to the middle of his chest. He tells the doctor, "Doc, it hurts when I do this". The doc looks at him, thinks for a moment and replies, "Well, then don't do that".
All I can tell you is don't put those wheels and tires on your car. I have 17's on mine and they work without a problem. So, it's probably that 1/2 inch that your talking about that's interference. The only way around it is to get new wheels and tires that work.
