Question What's that humming under the hood?

I have a 95 LS400 with about 65,000 miles. The car will always make this humming sound after the engine is turned-off. This humming sound will come on and off intermittantly for several minutes, coming from under the hood.

The 95 LS400 does not have any electric fan that will remain 'ON' after the engine stops, right?? Just puzzled.

If you have air suspension, thae humming might be the air compressor.

Just thought of something else...
Try opening the hood while this is happening and listening for the source of the noise. That's the first thing I would do.
Since you don't have air suspension, there are no other moving parts under the hood once the engine is shut off. Electric cooling fans don't work after shut down either (like on some other cars). This means that the only moving part left is the antifreeze. When engine heats up, the antifreeze expands and excess is transfered to the overflow tank. When the engine is stopped, it begins to cool and antifreeze is sucked back into the system from the overflow tank. This is what sometimes makes the noise on other cars, altough I never heard it on Lexus.

P.S.
cyber_man, 65,000 miles on an 8 year old car... In California... Hmm... Unless you are the original owner or you bought it from your grandma, I'd say you've been cyber_scrued. Hope this isn't the case for you though.

its the a/c releasing the excess pressure I believe. Try turning off the car after the a/c has not been used

It is a completely normal sound guys. My 99 Has it and my 98 Had it as well. Although I have not figured out what makes the sound, I know its nothing to worry about.
