Default Fuel System cleaners

I have been browsing through the threads trying to find an answer or something.. But I've come across the issue of deciding which fuel injector/ or system cleaner i should use...

I have used Chevrons Fuel Injector cleaner twice,, but i've heard mix reviews on those..

I was thinkign about using BG-44k .. btu i dont know what the worst can be if i did it too much..

BG claims to use it only twice (one per fill up) and you r done

What do u guys use in teh old LS400s?

I use Valvoline Fuel injector cleaner (3 tanks of it over a period of about 4 weeks) and it works GREAT! My car doesn't stutter as much as it used to during acceleration.

I also used the NOS octane booster, but I did not seem to get any results from that one so I'd reccomend to stay away from it.

I too have a 1991 LS400.

Thumbs up I use Chevron

Hi persian1451,

I use the Chevron fuel injector cleaner, typically once right before I get the oil changed, so if any crud comes out into the oil it gets flushed out with the oil. I bought my car with about 190,000 miles and performance was ok, kind of slow response time. Now at 220,000 miles, and using only good premium gas and running through the Chevron f.i. cleaner on a regular basis, the car definitely pulls better and responds more quickly. I used to get the occasional stutter or hesitation that some people mention, but I can't remember the last time that happened. Just keep in mind that any fuel injector cleaner that is overused can start to degrade the injectors, so go slow and follow the directions on the bottle.

I have used Chevron "Techron" several times, and have read that there are only 2 top quality cleaners that really have proven results to remove carbon buildup. These are Techron and BG44K. The dealers only recommend BG44K, and I am currently running a tank full of gas with BG44K. My LS is running very smoothly but I want to remove as much carbon from the valves and top of the pistons as possible. To do this you need more than just a fuel injector cleaner. Most quality auto dealers recommend using BG44K every 30K. You cannot buy BG products at most auto stores, and I had to special order off the Internet for about 16.00 per can. I bought 3 cans to run in my 3 cars.

I've used BG-44K and it was just fine. I get it on eBay. Better price.

Works great.

Chevron, has two or three system cleaners with tecron. They all come in the same looking black plastic bottle. The one to buy is the one that is Just tecron The others say includes tecron. They are less money but don't do as good a job.

BG products are incredible. I've used them for many years. From the 44K to the MOA. I've found that the BG 44K works the best of any cleaner that I've tried. It's expensive, but worth it. Actually I think that they recommend that you only use it evey 15K miles. Good luck.

I use Lucas UCL. I've heard very good stories about it and 131 Neutra. Both of them do two things, clean and lubricate, and both these functions are very important when it comes to injectors and valves. Go to Bob is the oil guy and read about the cleaners and additives in the forums.

Guys,
I have been using the fuel injector cleaner and total fuel system cleaner by STP for years. After reading your post yesterday I went to the local store and bought the chevron techron. and WOW. i felt the difference right away. i actually had put in the stp cleaner the last time i had filled up gas but the car was still not performing how i wanted .but with the techron i could feel the change the moment i stepped on the pedal after the gas fill.
thanks everyone for the advice !

Thumbs up BG 44k is good stuff

Bg 44k has worked well for me in the past , so has Amsoil's synthetic fuel system cleaner. Just be carefull with most fuel system cleaners as overuse can do more harm than good. I have never noticed a real difference in idle quality using STP or any of the major fuel cleaners out there. For best results use them on a road trip rather than during around town driving. You have to get sufficient pressure at the tip of the injector for the cleaners to be effective.
