Default Why so many gold 1998-2000?

As a prior owner of a 1996 LS400, I always admired the updated styling of the 1998-2000 models and I still poke around online looking to see if I could snag one to have as a 3rd car for a while. I'm amazed how many gold LS's seem to exist in the 1998-2000 years - both in what is for sale and what I see driving around. I would love to find a well maintained white LS - anyone know if those are more "rare" (less of them produced) compared to other colors? And was gold the highest production color?

There’s a nice white LS400 on Bringatrailer right now. 55k miles.

I see an an equal amount of silver gold and white when I’m looking around.

I see much less of the gold here, the pearl white and silver are pretty common.

Gold was a popular vehicle color back in the 90's - particularly with retired Florida geezers.

It's not a 1998-2000, but here is a "wonderful" photo of a white 1995 LS400 with the "Palm Beach Edition" package from a Florida Lexus dealer - don't you just love the gold emblems and wheels and the padded vinyl top?

I usually hate white cars and I don't care for the 95-97 or 98-00 styles of the LS400 but, damn Jim, that 95 is awesome. Those rims really stick out. I've never seen that dealer package but it's one that I would buy. That package would be better on a black LS. Or better yet, a green one. Maybe I'll do some research and head to Florida to look for one soon when I decide to get another LS. My 94 isn't gonna last too much longer.

Oh, and here in Ct, I don't see too many "gold" LS400s. Mainly black and two-tone white and grey.

Sherl, car looks great in green (really like it with tan interior) and yours looks to be in great condition. I love the 98-00 cars. I have a 2010 460L but would love to have a 98-00 in my stable as well.

^ silver is a great color esp with the interior combo!

gold sells, simple and plain. and colors are sent to areas where they will cater to the clientele.
the car was not for the entry level buyer and lexus knew that so they built the car for the more seasoned folks in life.

well that's exactly the problem... many of those original clientele are now dead or unable to drive, so everything that originally made lexus super awesome and attracted those buyers is now no longer relevant. now instead they put F sport badges and ridiculous grilles on everything.
