Default 1994 LS400: installing power steering pump and alternator, any tips?

I have heard that this can be quite a job so I'm looking for tips that I can pass on to my mechanic. I have a Denso alternator and a aftermarket power steering pump with Reservoir that needs installed. I have heard that you can install the alternator from below but I have also heard that you can install the alternator from above if you remove the fan shroud. I am not a mechanic by any means but I do have basic knowledge .....thank you

It's really not that difficult. A competent tech should have no problem with the job. The 2 parts are nested together so replacing both actually makes the job easier overall.

Alternator isn't really a hard job.The last one I changed in my 93 took me about 15 minutes during a snow storm. Seeing how the PS pump is getting changed then the alternator can be taken out from the top alot easier. Here's the pump instructions http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/steer...mpremoval.html from there your mechanic will see the alternator.

Default Factory versus aftermarket

I have decided to use a factory pump instead of the remanufactured aftermarket pump because I was advised it would whine. Found one at the junk yard for $50..... wish me luck. Has a 90 day warranty also....

The alternator can be replaced/installed from above once you removed the ps pump, however it's easier to installed from the bottom up.

Default Aftermarket power steering pump AAE

I sent the aftermarket one back and I noticed that it had a very thick black paint job on it and it did not have the pulley wheel......the cost was around $180

I've also read that 3 high pressure hoses and the O-ring is recommended to replace

the alternator isnt too bad if you remove it from underneath, just have alot of 1/4 inch drive sockets/ extensions/u-joints and a micro ratchet because youll need them to remove the heatshield off the alternator before you can pull it off. also a ratcheting 14mm wrench for the mounting bolts ircc

Default Update

The Denso power steering pump and the Denso alternator is installed. I did a power steering flush and a transmission flush as well. I've had the car for 5 years and have put 70000 miles on it and never messed with the fluids except oil changes and transmission drain and fills. Seems to be smoother shifting slightly, I can't tell to be sure tho. All fluids are full synthetic.
