radio plug and play
Does anyone know if the radio's can be switched between cars(without some kind of a security code?)? I pulled a 1995 radio out of the junk yard for $10 and wanted to see if the back lighting worked on it for my 1996 ls400. My radio works fine but has no back lighting. I guess I just want to know if it's plug and play with security concerns.

There is no security code on the 95-up LS400 ... only on the 90-94.
The back light bulbs can be replaced. Factory Radio Service in California charged $10 to replace them all in 2012 at the same time they installed an aux-in on the Nak head unit of the 2000 LS400 i used to have.

The solder crack is a common problem among Pioneer radios and other products in those days. I'd say it's a design fault. Engineers have to consider the differences of thermal expansion rates carefully.
