Default Keyless Entry Remote

When I bought my LS, it came with a key, that's it, no remote key, no fob, just a plain old key so, to lock or unlock the car, I have to put the key in the door lock & turn it (how old school is that?)...

I've read that a new remote can be programmed to the car but, I've also heard the entire system needs to be replaced (as in, the keys & the control module); can anyone shed any light on this?

If necessary, I'm not beyond fitting an after market system (if anyone can suggest a good, compatible system)...

FYI: The car in question is a UCF11, ~93 JDM spec Toyota Celsior
