Default 2000 LS 400 Timing Belt Service - Part Replacement Question

Hello All,

Well, I'm getting close to having this done and wanted to see what the members had to say about replacing part # 163070F010 (Fan Bracket - # 13 in pic) as part of this service.

I have never heard of this as part of the service and my mechanic said he's never heard of these failing and he's worked on a number of 4.7L Tundras.

The part is $200 and easily the most expensive single part of this service.

Any comments or experience with this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eddie

You can replace it if you want but it's not necessary unless the bearing is bad. A timing belt job is basically preventative maintenance considering the amount of labor involved. If the bearing in the fan bracket does go out it's not too hard to get to so there's really no need to put it in the preventative maint. category.
You don't have to pay $200 for it either...

Thanks for your comment bradland.

I'm going to use OE parts for everything, but if there was a part to go OES like Aisin, this would be it.

I'm going to skip it as you suggest and revisit if it fails.

Thanks again,

Eddie

Sounds like you are doing your due diligence which is great. One thing you might consider is the serpentine tensioner. This often gets overlooked during a TB job. It's not mandatory either but it is a wear item and can affect everything the serp belt drives if it's not at 100%. Just a thought...

Thanks again bradland. Me thinks you mean this part # 166200W101?

It looks like the right part based on the description.

If you were over 200k in miles I'd be tempted. Mine went out about the time I did my car at around 220k miles.

That's the fan clutch and when it starts to go bad your car will sound like a truck while idling. I did not change mine when doing the timing belt and not long afterward the fan clutch went bad. While not a hard job to do after the fact I was sure wishing that I had done it while I had it out already.

Thanks all. That is what I'm trying to decide exactly what you have stated. For me, it will be 7-10 years before my car hits 200k as I'm at 144k now.

Thanks again for everyone's replies.
