My passenger headlight assembly is kind of "broken"? So to speak. I keep seeing posts saying lexls has a tutorial on taking the entire assembly out, but I just see stuff for the fogs and not actually REMOVING the ENTIRE thing. I looked at it a little bit and gave it a good ol' Macgyver fix but it's drooping again.
I know the fog light has to come out but that's as far as I got since I wasnt in the mood and it was dark out..
The following is from the 1990-1994 LS 400 owner's manual. This is what I used myself, when I was removing the headlight.
Notes:
The corner light (parking light) has a metal peg that holds onto a yellow plastic connector on the headlight assembly. When you remove the corner light, you must push it out of the peg, but do not pull the light to the side (as shown in the owner's manual). This will break the plastic clips that keep it on the fender. The corner light must be pulled toward the front of the car, once the peg is out of the connector. You will hear a "pop" when this happens, and it does take a bit of force. Push from the back side of the corner light, using a rod or tool. Be careful not to lean on the headlight assembly or damage the fender.
When removing the assembly, you do not need to remove the fog light. You can remove the fog light if you desire, but the screw that holds it down on the front is rusty on most cars and will likely strip now.
When removing the headlight assembly, you don't need to remove the bulbs, as stated, unless you want to replace them. Instead, you can just remove the connector.
Anyone know if it's possible to slap some one piece Celsior headlights onto my 92 LS? Or would there be some sort of issue with that?
The headlight housings have the same dimensions and are interchangeable. However, it is important to note that the Celsior headlights will require rewiring the bulbs, which is harder if you don't get the connector with the Celsior headlights, and they will be aiming the wrong way (RHD vs LHD).
Also, thanks stoney1997 and creilly. The owner's manual for this car is one of the best, in my opinion. The only improvement that could be made is the addition of more information.
Per the Celsior headlights, it shouldn't be a problem and it seems that's been done before. I removed and reinstalled mine not too long ago using the LS400 service manual as a guide and had zero problem. Aiming them is exactly the same as for the LS400, there are screws that adjust the position of the beam.
i might do more research on it before biting. Thanks again Celsior. I took the assembly out and I got it tightened up but it's not flush or as elevated as the driver side headlight. But it's not drooping down anymore at least. I wish we weren't really limited to how much aftermarket accessories we had for 1st gens, would've been nice to have some nice halo headlights.
Glad you were able to improve it. It sounds like this is more of a headlight alignment issue - I needed to adjust the right headlight on my car when I bought it, because someone previously aimed the lens too low, making it look strange and illuminate improperly.
