Question Need help. 1991 Headlights for Non US LS400

Hello,

I have a 1st generation LS400 (ucf100095297) and need a set of head lights since the glass in mine is pitted.

My LS400 is a non US car and equipped with bumper type fog lights, the US version doesn't have that, so I'm confused weather I can use at least the lenses from the US version headlights and use my car original sockets and bulbs? i mean is the light assembly body the same?

here is my LS400 when the lights and fog lights are on

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now with high beam on also.

the USDM glass will differ just in the fluted portions and should fit onto the car, but you may need to rewire the bulb connections if they differ. not sure what type of bulbs are in your headlights but USDM bulbs are 9004 for the high/low beam, and H3C for the foglights.

i would go with japanese headlights as they are one piece and look cleaner. they will need a rewire as well.

here is a US car with JDM one-piece headlights.

thank you timmy, i have few questions more then:

1- Can I use the sockets and bulbs from my headlights to avoid rewiring?

2- Can you recommend a good after market OEM style headlights (eagle eyes, depo,....etc.) which one is good?

3- My country region LS400 from 1990 till 1994 the headlights are same and carries the same part number, but in the US case there are 2 versions from 1990 to 1994, what is the difference between them?

the originals oem in my country are for $1100 for both hear lights while in amazon the aftermarket ones are for $380 to $430 for the pair. but amazon sells only the US version and that's why I'm asking.

thanks in advance

DO NOT use Japanese one piece headlights on your LS400. Japan drives on the left side of the road so Japanese market headlights will blind oncoming drivers. The beam pattern is also poor.

Do not use OEM Toyota/Lexus brand main headlights designed for the U.S. and Canada. The 90-94 LS400 sold in North America has fog lights where you have highbeam headlights next to your main beam headlights. The low beam headlight pattern on the North American 90-94 LS400 is horrible and unsafe. The North American 93-94 main headlight units should fit your car and not require any rewiring but, like I said, the beam pattern is horrible.

If your LS400 was specifically for the sale in your country then your headlights are probably different that the headlights for continental Europe. The headlights for Europe have manual beam adjustments with an adjustment rotary switch on the left side of the dashboard. The documentation I have indicates that the Gulf States 90-94 LS400 does not have the beam adjustment motors and the dashboard control - but the documentation may not be accurate.

Although they are not extremely high quality, the "Eagle Eyes" North American specification (left hand drive) headlights sold on eBay might fit your LS400, provide a decent beam pattern and will not require any rewiring. The Eagle Eyes headlights are cheap - about US$200 for a pair the last time I checked. The Eagle Eyes headlights come with inner fog lights so you would not want to use them if you want to retain your inner high beam units.

If you want to replace your inner high beam headlight modules and your bumper mounted foglights, I think that your only alternative is to buy the ones meant for your country.

Hello Kansas. Great information thank you. Regarding the Eagle eye 1994 North America oem spec sold in ebay, can I use the whole unit body without the sockets and bulbs (use the ones from my ls400). Is by doing this I can avoid rewiring and have the high beam working on the inner side of the Eagle eye unit (what is used as fog light in the US)?

Thanks again

The inner headlight modules of both the Eagle Eye and North American OEM headlight units for the 90-94 LS400 are fog lights. The North American 90-94 LS400 does not have its fog lights below the bumper like your LS400 does.

I do not know if the inner high beam headlight modules you have now will fit with the Eagle Eyes main headlight modules. The Eagle Eyes main headlight modules use H4 bulbs like the main headlight modules you have now - rewiring for the main headlight unit would not be necessary.

I think I have much better understanding now. It seems the recommendation to go with my country specs makes more sense and gives piece of mind.

I found the lenses for $850 (4 pieces to cover both sides). Maybe my last attempt is to find a place that can polish my headlights glass

2 days ago I took the decision to buy not only the headlights but the complete front lighting :
1. Main light lens
2. High beam lens (called fog light in the USA)
3. Fog lights (Bumper type as per my country version of ls400)

In addition to the above I also bought the bumper signals (4 pieces 2 each side). Moreover the fender type side turn signals.

Planning to refresh my ls400 which have 332,000 km on the counter.

Some of my purchases

The bumper fog lights are getting difficult to find. My dealer have a couple of complete assemblies of the right side but the left is not available. Will brain storm for ideas before installing the new ones.
