Cigar Lighter Construction ('98 LS400)
I have a dashcam, which is powered from the front cigar lighter. Every so often the socket stops working, and normally after removing the ashtray assembly and checking for continuity, it starts working again before I can identify the cause.
Right now I have the cigar lighter in bits. What I can't understand is the purpose of what looks like a mica washer between the incoming positive feed and the terminal stud. I mean, what is the point? Given that the feed and stud point are bridged by a right-angle piece of wire.
I know I'm going to put it all back together and it'll work for a while, then quit again. Just can't get to grips with this one...
Update: Back in and working again - for now....

Thank you Yamae, of course it had not occurred to me that this right-angled wire was a fusible link. (But I did wonder if it was a ballast resistor.)
Where the contacts are crimped round it, I did take the precaution of soldering those crimps this time, just for good measure.
Regards,
Rich

we have so many new things now that we never had before, I would not recommend removing the "little washer" because it is dealing with HEAT, not current.. that Dashcam just runs hotter than an ordinary plug in and is providing you protection you NEED... leave it in there...

I'd be surprised though if the dashcam PSU runs hotter than anything else (a lighter, obviously) as the 12 - 5V regulator is in the head of the plug which sits quite a way up from the socket.
