Upper radiator hose oem vs aftermarket p
The previous owner of 1999 LS400 (or his indy repair shop) elected to replace the upper radiator hose with an unknown aftermarket brand.
Several deficiencies in quality are identified,; Thinner hose material and open mesh (frayed) instead of solid rubber insulating collar.
Aftermarket hose on top contains a wire mesh sleeve which does nothing but make you think you are getting something more.
The OEM hose has solid formed rubber outer insulating sleeve which also serves to help hose retain its shape. OEM hose on left depicts thicker wall thickness.
Thinner hose does not insulate as well the hot coolant from intake components
1998-2000 LS400 hose made in Japan

I stupidly purchased a Gates hose from Oriellys when I first bought the car due to the PS pulley wearing into the lower hose, so I figured I'd do both.
The top hose bot only was too long, I had to cut off a good inch and a half in order to not make it kink on the Rad. side.
The bottom hose I had to twist slightly to make it pull away from the pulley and not rub. Not only that, the clamps are important as well. I used a worm type clamp which would leak coolant if not tightened just right.
It's so much less trouble using the OEM Lexus hoses. And you won't risk overheating when the system pressurizes like I almost did 35 miles from home.

If an aftermarket purveyor of radiator hoses at all pretends to attend to their business,, whether poor quality or not, then how about producing the correct size??
System pressurization is an issue when using thin-walled aftermarket hose...the thinner material is more prone to stretching (or ballooning) under pressure...and pressure is necessary for the cooling system to function properly.
Hard to imagine Toyota wasting resources on a thicker hose material if they didn't think it was necessary....

yeah it worked fine after I tightened the crap out of the worm hose clamp. It could've also been attributed to my Denso aftermarket radiator. But that was purchased by the previous owner a few months before I bought the car due to the original plastic neck snapping. He probably used the worm type clamps on it instead of the oem type.
