96 LS400 engine tapping sound.
The engine runs very smooth, and the sound is never any louder than you hear in the video, regardless what the engine is doing. It's on a fresh oil change using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30. Previous owner used 10w30 Castrol BLEND.
What do the vets think of this sound? The distinct tapping when underneath, 12 seconds in? Would you drive like this?

It would be nice to use a mechanics stethoscope on it. I think I hear 2 separate noises, one is slight valve lash. The other could be a bearing on something in front of the engine, either one for serpentine belt or timing belt, the bearing noise should be found and fixed if it is that.

I'll deal with the pump soon, but you don't think the other noise is of immediate concern? I have lots of excellent tools and the ability to follow directions, but not a lot of real world experience with symptoms resulting in failure (I catch everything early). So I'm unaware of the severity of not addressing the tink/tapping sound right away.

valve lash is done by either shims or bucket thickness.
i had my valve covers off the other weekend to do the gaskets and no rocker arms.
cams over buckets..so lash is going to interesting..

I'm actually starting to notice a little abnormal intermittent AC compressor bearing noise as well. I don't need AC ever. Any issues deleting it with a shorter belt? I know it's easy to find the right belt, but how about increased strain on the idler? Anyone run with an AC bypass belt long term?
