Default LS400 Temperature extremes

The paint an body of these or any car sure goes through some extremes. Tonight I took my IR temp gauge and checked the windshield was 3 degrees F, and the Hood was 4 deg F. In summer I know I was getting 150 plus F on a hot day in the sun. Both cold and hot can't be good for paint or rubber parts. Curious what kinda temps others measure back east and other countries. Its strange the car is lot colder than the ambient temp outside. As I got 12 deg F pointing at the air.

In AZ in the summer time, I stuck a meat thermometer in my AC vent and parked the car in the sun...when i got off work, it registered 180 degrees and the AC didn't start blowing 38 degrees until I got on the highway about 5 miles later. This was in my 93 Accord, luckily I still run R12 in the system otherwise it would've taken forever to cool.

Optimal driving conditions are: clear 72-76F with 30-35% humidity. Anything else is risky. The coolest we'd driven ours was Bridgeport at 18F and high in Vegas or Baker of ~110F.

95 LS400 here.

highest ive seen my interior get here in florida was 180ish. its 90F most of the year here with 85-95% humidity. coldest ive had it here with my car was 29 degrees. ive noticed my car drives differently in the cold vs the hot, but in reverse. typically most cars drive better in the cold, however mine performs better in the heat! the hotter and muggier the day the more pickup my car has. when its cold it doesn't seem as powerful and everything on it creaks. weird.

what I really find amazing though is how durable these interiors are along with all the electronics. 20+ years of being superheated and cold constantly hasn't affected the car at all!

you can't really use an IR thermometer to measure air by just shooting into the sky...it doesn't work that way at all.

For paint, be sure to keep the bumpers clean and the tops of the doors. Sand and gravel dust left on these areas and they will kill the clear coat. Also, wax it at least once a year. Experienced this when I had my 98 in the tropics for 8 years. Sun is more intense in Hawaii.

The tops of my bumpers on my 98 are pretty much toast already... Texas roads and heat are killers.
