Default new shift ****?

So the fake/maybe real would on my shift **** of my 1997 Lexus LS400 Coach Edition is cracking so I might replace it in the near future. However, I am unclear on how to actually remove the shift **** itself and then if it is a threaded ****, what threads it would actually have since I am looking at a cool looking shift **** that comes with adapters but I don't know if those adapters will fit. help me please?

Not sure but isn't there a set screw? And if there are wires you can't just twist them.

The shift **** has a screw facing the dashboard. Remove and lift up. The wires for the overdrive switch will resist entire removal. I do not know how to loosen wire.

The 97 has no wires or switches in the shift ****. It simply unscrews.

The wood is real BTW.

So, if I wanted to put a newer model Lexus shift **** on my 97 - say a leather one with a wood insert - most newer model ***** are interchangeable with mine?

Yes. The LS400 has a big shift **** though, a lot of the newer ones are much smaller.

Great - thanks very much. I'll be on the lookout for one on Ebay or CL.

I'm currently using one from a RX or GS not sure which got it from a guy on craigslist all wood no leather. Had to use a dremel to open up the silver cone base because the shift lever shaft is thicker on the LS.

I have the same from an SC and did the same you did, except I used a drill and a mill bit to make it a little cleaner/faster.

All wood for me.

OP- all "gated" automatic toyota/lexus/scion from the past 15-20 years have the same shift **** threads. Manual cars and older style automatic (with buttons on the shift ****) are different and will not fit.

So the threads are the same - it will still thread on, but the opening in the chrome boot is smaller on the newer ones and so has to be enlarged?
