Default Was rust an option?

In the pursuit of perfection, and the other very nice small details that were done in the construction of these cars you would think all the metals that could corrode would have been protected. Like these brackets that hold the plastic retainer *****.

You can never stop rust, you can just slow it down.

So you're upset that a 25-30 year old vehicle with an unknown history has a few spots of surface rust on a support clip on the INSIDE of a door card?

Someone sound an alarm, Lexus must be be cutting costs....

Metal + water + time = rust. This is inevitable, even the best coatings will fail with age.

Isn't that part of the door panel sealed from the outside environment either by the rubber door seals or the thick plastic sheet they put behind the door panel blocking out any dust or moisture intrusion?

My AZ car has zero rust, maybe you should've bought a car from here.

Plus, if they were to rust coat everything, don't you think that would drive the cost up a bit? Cost plays a big role into what gets more attention, better quality of materials and coatings added to it. They didn't think that people would still be driving these cars 25 years down the road. With yours being a 91 model, Lexus was still a pretty new company testing different things and "perfecting" despite being a division of Toyota.

Pursuit of perfection !!!!!!!!!!!!!
When they flet pad all the little clips that hold in some of the items like the ash tray, yes I do expect that.
When they plastic insert nuts for sheet metal screws, yes its not that difficult to dip the simple parts in a coating. I used a dremel wire brush and clear coated them.

In reality, even after 60 years, they would still be solid.
