Default Moonroof not closing all the way

'98 Lexus LS400 with 166K miles.

I hit the auto lever for the moonroof and it will go all the way like it's closing, but then it will go backwards and leave the moonroof open 3/4 of the way. I tried holding down on the lever, but it still goes backwards. I tried holding down the lever for 10 seconds forward and backward, but that didn't work. Any ideas?

Time to use the manual close function.

Sounds like the limit switch is not working properly. See attached pdf which includes the wiring diagram and the documents.

I have this problem every once in a while. What I do to close it is hold the forward switch on the moonroof and as soon as it closes press and hold the tilt switch. it should freeze the moonroof in place. then i hit the forward switch again and it locks in place.. let me know if it works for you. it works for me

The procedure is in the owners manual.

when i was having this issue with my 98 i put WD-40 on the tracks of the sunroof. That fixed it for me, not sure if it was a coincidence or not
