Default 92 LS400 Hood difficult to open

Dear experts,

I have 92 LS400. Hood will not pop up after I pull hood release lever. I need to pull up hood, so I can access to lever under hood to open the hood.
Does this mean release cable is broken?

If you mean you are pulling the inside the car release lever, then pulling up the hood, then no the cable is not broke. What you describe is pretty much how they all work? The hood is not going to fly open. It has to be picked up a bit to get to the lever in front.

it could just be stuck or the rubber gaskets are sealing it down. have a friend pull on the hood upwards while you release the latch from inside the car. if that does not do anything, then yes the cable is either unattached, broken, kinked, or the hood latch is misaligned.

It is working like they intended it to work.

Thanks for everyone advise.
My 06 LS430, hood will move up a little after pull hood release lever on the driver side, so I can put my hand under the hood to push lever to open the hood

For 92 LS400, I have to pull up the hood(after pull hood release lever on the driver side) to get space for my hand to access under hood.
It is nice to know it is normal behavior.

It should move up a little just like your 430. Try putting some silicone lube on the hood release latch. Maybe it's getting hung up.

Yes, it should operate the same as the 460. It should pop up to the second catch where you can then slide your hand under the hood to reach the second release lever. I would think the hood is sticking to the rubber stoppers or has some type of spring problem.
How are your hood struts? Do they need to be replaced?

If its ever to be in a body shop or any sort of painting silicone is the biggest no no. I've been told it by many auto painters. They say it is the hardest thing to remove, you can't just wipe it off. Silicone grease on brake parts is fine, unless you ever plan to paint them, the paint will at some point in time lift or fish eye like crazy.
