Default Changing it up a bit

The PO installed the H&R springs and added the 2000 LS wheels to it so it wouldn't look and handle like grandpa's Lexus. He threw the tint on as well and they did a good job with the bronze tint. Well, we are going to take it one step further. We ordered the new wheels and tires. The wheels came signature required and of course we missed it so we'll go down tonight and get them, but the meats got dropped off. Should come out pretty good. Will update.

Houston we have a problem. The calculator we used said they stick out 29mm from stock up front and the rear 46mm from stock, which would have given it a nice flush look. Not so much. The fronts are 18x8.5 with 35 offset and the rear is 18x9.5 with a 30 offset and it looks a lot further out on the car. We may also have a issue up front with the spindle as we are using 245/40/18 up front. We don't have the tires mounted yet, don't know if we want too. Funny thing is I see others running wider up front but I don't know the specs. This is supposed to be 18x8.5 +35 for up front. I don't know about that, especially from some of the other pics I see of other cars with wider wheels up front. We've measured them.

I have 19x8.5 +33 up front with 245/40 tires and I'm still about 5mm under the fender.

I just wonder if it is the design of the wheel. It measures correctly across as far as width, and we did the measurement for the offset and it is close, less than 3mm on each (33mm on the front and 28mm on the front) but that could be error on our measurements. I guess I'm going to have to call the wheel company tomorrow and find out what is up.

If anything, do some fender work to make them fit. I may be an outcast in this, but I rarely measure how a wheel would sit. I know the general range of sizes that works and I do fender work to accommodate it.
My M5 wheels on my LS sit perfectly flush in the rear, and the fronts were sticking out almost 2 inches. Lots of fender work later, they fit perfectly.
Point of the story, don't send the wheels back if it'll cost you anything more than what you already paid for. Just do some fender work and make them fit! It doesn't look like much, just a small pull.

I've watched vids on that and that is way out of my league. What gets me is I went thru the wheel combo threads and that is why I came up with the set up that I bought. Like this car:
1990 LS 400
Weds Farmas 18x8.5+35 18x9.5+32
tanabe DF210 springs

I don't get it. Same set up in the front, 2mm more for me in the rear but drastic difference on the car. I don't know if it is something on my car causing them to stick out or something wrong with the wheel. My car rides on H&R springs, that is about the only difference. He is running 245/40/18 up front and 265/35/18 in the rear.

For that wheel spec it should be about flush front rear. Is the suspension compressed or hanging in that shot? The way to get an idea how it will sit is with it under load. Put a block of wood under the wheel and jack it up until it is at proper compression.

That was with a jack stand under the control arm and the car resting on it. Probably not full load because the car was still tilted.

Got them boxed up and ready to return. We've picked out a different wheel that should fit better. I researched the heck out of that combo but in the end I think it comes down to the design of the wheel and that wheel really meant for a stretched tire/camber look. It is a great design, I wish there was a wheel out there in our price range like it.

I have to hand it to aspecwheels though. The guys I've dealt with so far have been great answering questions and helping find another wheel.

This was the rear. 18x9.5 +30

at compression that looks like it will be a flush fitment, albeit after a bit of fender trimming. it all depends on how tall the tires are and how stretched plus of course ride height. sometimes just removing that rubber/metal liner trim gives you just enough more room to clear. excited for the final outcome!

Find someone who has a fender roller local too you. Really all you need to do is just roll in the fender guard and you will be good to go. I`m running 18x10 +22 squared as of right now and all i did was flatten that lip. I run 245/45/18 tires.

We removed the metal trim piece and rolled the fender. It was alright until we turned and hit a dip and we still got a little scrape. We removed those 275/40's and went with 255/40 and that made all the difference in the world. A little narrower and not quite as tall (which I think looks better) and we are all set. After we do new outer tie rod ends we'll have a proper alignment done with as much negative rear camber as we can get with the stock set up but still be straight. I'll post up some pictures tomorrow as we'll have it out to work on my '63 Catalina.
