Default Center armrest/compartment latch broke on my 98 LS400

My BF tried supergluing it and it didn't work. The latch assembly comes right out and I have it in my hands now. Seems very simple. I suppose I can't buy this replacement part? It almost looks 3D printable it's so basic.

How should I go about fixing this? Maybe JB weld instead? Or replace it with velcro? no clue.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would try buying a used one from a junkyard.

The part should still be available from lexus, but each latch assy. (there are 2, upper and lower) is ~$50.

Lexus part numbers:
58908-50030 for the upper i believe
58908-50020 for the lower.

It forms a superhard bond, kind of like a weld. If you dust the join with baking powder, then drop superglue on it, you will have a super strong bond. There's something called Q-Bond that is quite expensive that I think works on the same principal.

It's the lower latch and Lexus of Tulsa wants $80 for it

I'll try the baking soda and super glue thing. Watched some videos on youtube about it and it looks pretty promising.

So I'll clean up the joints then dust with baking soda, then apply the lines of glue. Then I'll press that together for a while Then I'll coat all around the seam on the exterior with more super glue and baking soda.. to where I am kinda remolding it with baking soda & glue

Maybe it'll stay put if I do that.

I'd like to know where I can get that latch for $50 though. Can I order directly from LExus some how?

Eric the car guy repairs Elvis with Q-bond, which I'm willing to wager is nothing more than superglue and baking soda. There's even a video on youtube of a guy dropping vinegar into the Qbond powder which reacts exactly as baking soda does. Eric gets the repair technique down after screwing up initially by not having the parts joined before adding the superglue.

Try here. http://www.lexussouthatlantaparts.co...category=21743
I'm not sure what part is broken on yours, but 58908A looks to me like the upper and lower plastic latch. $45 each.
