Default Load Rating question

I believe the recommended load rating on tires for a first gen is 94.... What I'm running now is a 235/40r18 on a 18x8 wheel, but I need a smaller tire because I'm rubbing on the edges of the front fenders. I was thinking a 225/35 or a 215/35 but I cannot find anything that size with a 94+ load rating. I picked up two Nankang 225/35 87H tires online because the idiots at Discount tire recommended it, but when I brought them in they wouldn't mount them. So are there any tires smaller than a 235/40 that I can safely run on a 18x8?
Would it be safe to run the 225/35r18 87H tire even?

they won't mount them bc the load rating was under the recommended amount. you can certainly run an 87 load index and you should be fine unless you constantly load the car with 5 200lb adults with luggage in the boot. take it to another shop.

how bad are you rubbing? if very minor you can try a different brand but same size 235/40/18. a lot of people don't know that not all tires are the same height. a toyo 235/40 will differ in sidewall compared to a continental 235/40 for example. this is a very pricey gamble if you don't know your tires however.

have you tried 225/40/18? i bet they are some out there with the right load index!

Rubbing fenders? Look forward to rusted out fenders in the future.

There are other options to making tire clearance. What wheel offset, shave-roll-pull the fenders, etc.
