Default Opinions on changing the pinion seal. 91 ls400.

Ok. I was under the car doing a quick inspection of the differential and a few of the bushings. Looks like the pinion seal is toast. Any way I was wondering if any one had changed the seal with out having to completely rebuild the diff.
Setting up the diff can be a real pain. From some of the reading l have done It looks like it would need to be torn down. Just lookin for input and some input on this. Thanks in advance fellas.

I've not been into one from an LS. I know on the ones I have worked on there is a crush sleeve that should be changed, and you want the correct preload on the bearings. You tighten the pinion nut and then use an inch pound wrench or scale and look for a certain amount of resistance. I think its a special manual volume for the info, so that would be a go to the Toyota tec site type of deal. It maybe something that can be done in car. And maybe worth the $ just to take it to a differential outfit to do the work.
