the internals are interchangeable, the cases are not.

no, no lexus ever came with an LSD before the 2001/2002 IS300.
as it's unrelated to this thread, i suggest you search the LS400 forum for "LSD*" without the quotes but with the star for more information.

Direct bolt in,, no problems - 89-94. As Puredrifter stated,, the internals with the different years are all the same, however the case sizes are different.

Thanks for the info cause when I dropped my rearend it had a salvage yard tag of 1998 ls400.

if you're still running the '96 rear subframe then it was a tagging error as the '98-00 rear end won't bolt in.
