so i ordered a dash or gauge cluster whatever you want to call them. great price, fast shipping all is well until i try to plug in the dash. plugs are different. 95 - 97 ls400 should be interchangeable right? guess not. can anyone shed some light on why these are different.

top dash is 95 bottom 97. I have noticed the part numbers are one digit different. 95 ends in 0 97 ends in 1. the orange and blue plugs are different sizes

I have no idea about the gen 2, there are a few things that could make them different on a gen 1 that would be
if it has or doesn't have "Trac" and the same with the "Air suspension" I have not compared them to see though.

 

Sorry to hear that. You shouldn't have acted without knowing the changes. In August 96, more than 10 changes were done although 95-97 look almost the same.

The Toyota Goa body was introduced. The structures and insides were quite different. The new SRS air bags were also introduced. There also minor changes were done. The gauge cluster is only one of those changes.
